here goes, so I have an old tl with shifting problem. I just finished up rebuilding the tranny. full new rebuild kit plus new torque converter. and what a messy education it was. once inside the tranny it was pretty simple. after reinstalling it in the car. filling it with fluid. I started the car, put it into reverse. it sounded like the tranny went in to reverse. how ever the car didn't move. so I tried drive. same thing. so I left the car in gear. waited a few minutes. and the car jerked into drive and went through all the gears. so I tried reverse again. same thing. the tranny sounded like it went into reverse and didn't move. so I tried to go down to first. the computer won't left me passed 3rd. so I went back to d4 and the tranny went into gear and then didn't move. after a couple of minutes it jerked into gear and shifted through all 4 gears. so I went into neutral and then reverse again. same thing. tranny sounded like it went into reverse and didn't move. so I put the car in park. shut it off. waited a few minutes. started the car again. tried reverse, same thing over again. tried d4 samething as reverse. sound like it went into gear. and didn't move. buy this time the wife was out there with a long disappointing look on her face. so to make her smile. I put the car in park, shut the car off, and un hooked the shift solenoids on top. started the car again. tried reverse sounded like it wen into gear. and didn't move. the wife really had the look of disappointment with some anger thrown in. so I put the car in drive or d4. the car went into gear and started moving. a look of shock and surprise was on both our faces. so we went around the block. the car remained in 1st gear the entire time. hey but it did go. so when we got back. I hook the solenoids back up. tried it over again. in reverse,d4,d3 the tranny sounded like it went into gear, and didn't move. wife was still smiling a bit disappointed. and said, you almost have it fixed. so I hooked up the actron scanner. and checked for codes. nothing other then the p0505 iac code. nothing for tranny codes. so I was wondering if replacing the shift solenoids would help the tranny function properly? the wife is already after me wanting it finished so she can drive it. so does any one have any real advice if new shift solenoids will solve the problem?
