Thinking of converting my 08AT to CNG. I'm in SoCal and there's CNG stations all over the place. Prices are about $2/gal for CNG and I should get about the same mileage as premium ($4/gal). They have kits that allow you to install a tank in the trunk and be able to burn CNG or gasoline by pushing a button.
There's not a ton of info out there about conversions, but it looks like I might be able to use the SkyCNG 4 cylinder kit. That's $900+$25 cable. I then have to get a tank, which is pretty expensive ($~700-1000). They also offer a book that explains how to install the kits. I'm not sure what I would do about the tank install, I might try to find someone with high pressure tank experience to help me. I also don't care about smog inspections since my car isn't registered here and I don't plan on registering it in CA. Supposedly it burns cleaner anyways, but I bet they would fail you on the spot just knowing that it burns CNG from a non-approved kit.
Any thoughts?
