Navi Disc Question

Long time lurker, just joined.

I drive a 2010 TL SH-AWD Tech and my wife drives a 2011 MDX Tech. Can I buy one update DVD to update both of our navigation units? Does the disc load onto the hard drive or does it have to stay in the car to operate?
