I already rented a 300 with the new 8 speed before but this time I had the car for several days for work reasons so I had the chance to drive the car a bit aggressively on different type of roads.
The interiors are already semi-trashed, it is quite old to be a rental (23K miles), your typical no frills rental special Chrysler 300 with fake wood and probably fake leather as well.
I remember how the old 5 speed version was quite a bit sluggish so I was surprised at how lively and gutsy the new setup is considering the size of the rig.
The basic suspension setup is still a bit floaty (17" rims), considering also that it is a 2013 or 2014, the 300 has been recently further updated.
You stomp on the gas and the thing rocket forward with the shifting so quick....even if it does not even have a sport option, this 8 speed ZF gearbox is really sweet.
Yesterday was funny.....I had this kid with his sparkling new BMW 320i (what is the deal with these 320i drivers?? Second time this happened to me) zig zagging in traffic, cutting everybody off......we ended up together at a traffic light.....let's see what you got I asked to the old lady...well let me tell you, it was not much of a fight, feel sorry for the poor kid, the granpa rental special obliterated his krautmobile....I'm talking about pulling away.....he came back for more and got spanked again badly....I was quite surprised at the difference....maybe he will learn to buy a real BMW when he can afford it
Interesting how a new gearbox can quite change a car character...next time you end up with one of these things, they are a bit more fun than you may think.
