Bought new-to-me 2012 TL (base), shifting rough

Hi everyone,

First post here.

2 weeks ago I purchased a new-to-me 2012 Acura TL, base, Silver/ebony with 27,074 miles. Absolutely LOVE the car, especially the color combo of silver and ebony. :toocool:

Anyway, from the day I purchased the car, I noticed a hesitation between 1st and 2nd shifting gears and between 2nd and 3rd gear shifts; almost as if the car was having to think and decide whether or not it actually want to shift. I dismissed this as being low octane fuel, because that is what the dealer filled up the car with when I purchased (Carmax, don't get me started).

This is my 2nd TL (1st was a red pearl 2006 with Nav and a rough shifting transmission, to say the least. Traded that guy in before it left me stranded somewhere with a blown transmission, but other than that I loved the car)

I assumed the rough shifts and surging when lightly pressing the gas would slowly get better with higher octane fuel (93). But it hasn't. So i took the car to the Acura dealer near me since the car still has a lot of the original warranty left.

The service manager assured me that they have not had to work on any 4g TL transmissions and haven't heard of any problems, which made me feel a little better, though likely just Acura propaganda.

I asked for a Technician to drive the car with me. Immediately he felt what I was speaking of, the surging and rough shifts between the gears at low RPM's, and remarked "Yeah, this is pretty bad. Should not being doing this." Finally, not me just being sensitive about my car!

He said first things first, change the transmission fluid. Which is now done. The car now shifts beautifully, though still slightly rough going from 1st to 2nd (veryy slight roughness), but honestly could just be me being sensitive, or the -1 degree F temps this morning (let the car warm up for 15 mins).

What do you guys think? Should I keep on this and bug them to replace the torque converter? I know that the torque converter can be faulty in these cars, from what I've read, and i want to make sure to get it replaced while I still have the warranty left if need be. Any advice would be appreciated. :wish:

Thank you!
