locking wheel lugs

Just traded in my 2004 mdx for a 2013 version.

The older car had Acura locking lug nuts which I took off before trading it in. I would like to know if I can use these lugs on the new car. I asked the dealer and they said I needed to buy a new set, as the thread dimensions where not the same on the '04 vs '13.

Not sure if this was a ruse to get me to buy some new lugs or the truth.

Before I try the old lugs and risk ruining the thread on the new wheels appreciate any advice people can give.
