1998 3.2TL - Move To Northern BC, Canada

Here are some pics of my trip moving from Vancouver to Northern BC. Been meaning to post these for awhile. Made the move Feb 2013. Enjoy!

TL was packed to the max, including a set of 4 winter tires in the back seat.

Ride was a soldier all the way up, took the ferry from Port Hardy to Prince Rupert to shorten the drive. Saved 750km taking the ferry.

I have had this car for 6 years with absolutely no problems or issues, mostly city driving in Vancouver. Since moving up, the car has had several repairs, could be the cold or coincidentally the age, it is 16 years old and parts get worn, however it's all happened since moving up here. I've listed them below.

Some issues encountered during the first year in colder climate:
  • Rear hub bearings significantly worn out in June 2013, replaced all hub bearings, front and rear.
  • Car would shut off intermittently while driving, Feb 2014 to March 2014. Replaced Main Fuel Pump Relay. No problems, re-soldered connections of old relay, good spare now.
  • Radiator leak, Aug 2014. It's a known issue with these vehicles, the top part of the radiator cracks, causes the leak or significant radiator spill over engine compartment. I was lucky it was a slow leak. Replaced radiator easy DIY, bought one from eBay $80. Problem solved.

  • After heavy rains Sept 2014 to Nov 2014, noticed significant water leak building up in left-rear passenger foot-well (2 inches above carpet). Searching on these forums led me to remove drain valves located underneath windshield cowling, directs water down the quarter-panel to the wheel-well. Build up of dirt with effect of heavy rains, causes the water to rise a couple inches where there is an opening and the water leaks in through the firewall. Problem solved.

  • Trunk water leak, removed tail-lights and re sealed gasket with clear silicone, problem solved

  • Blower motor intermittently on/off. Nov 2014. This one might be the one that breaks the camels back. No heat in the winter here is not good for business and winter hasn't started yet. Cost of repair, up in this part of the country is $2K and no one wants to do it, since it is a pain. So resorting to giving it a daily kick on the dash in the morning. Hopefully it lasts through the winter.

This car is a gem, very reliable, starts up on a dime, smooth ride. I hate having the thought of parting with it over a blower motor issue. I would buy another one, however due to age and the colder climate up here, it would have the same issues. These cars are a rare breed and everyone that has been a passenger is always impressed of the quality of the vehicle and the year it was made.
