Front Suspension Questions

Hi Everyone, I took my 06 TL 6spd in for state inspection yesterday and was told I would need right front lower control arm bushings for $305 with labor and a new lower control arm. Also, a left upper ball joint for $250. I told them I would take the car home and do it myself.
I've been looking around online and see that most of the upper ball joints that are for sale alone cost more than the entire upper control arm with the ball joint already attached. The ball joints seem to range from $70 to $110 and the upper control arms seem to be around $70 to $90 for Acura OEM control arms.
Does anyone know what the difference is and why the ball joints alone would cost more than the upper control arm?
I noticed some of the ball joints mention being adjustable and the control arms don't seem to be. Would that be a problem for a TL with stock rims and tires? If I do replace just the ball joint, does the ball joint have to be pressed into the existing control arm or can it be done by hand?
Lastly, does anyone know which aftermarket brands of Lower control arms I should avoid? Thank you in advance for any help you can offer.
