Let me begin by saying: I'm very pleased to have the opportunity to have a 2010 BMW X6M. While the TLX that I own, a 2016 2.4L I4 FWD P-AWS Technology is my wife's car. And... I'd like to take this opportunity to make a new thread to discuss my experience (yours may vary, we will agree on some aspects, disagree on others...).
Here is the car I have:
Here is her TLX:
I'm convinced that V8 twin-turbos are good motors, it clearly makes the car faster to drive, particularly if you are in a hurry to go, such as to merge, or for whatever reason. I would absolutely prefer to have the V8TT on the track, and, if I had track specific tires, such as r-comp tires, I feel like it would be an amazing track car for someone who wishes to travel at speed and enjoys a car which has a good balance between comfort and the feel of a good "drivers car" that is not too soft or floaty, and has good steering feel with both just enough "feedback" from the road to inspire confidence and a crisp, not-sloppy steering system.
But, for me personally, the V8TT is actually slightly less fun than the NA 4cylinder car. It's almost too fast - I like having to floor the throttle on my wife's car, since I travel up steep grades on the freeway a lot, in "Sport" mode, and I always leave my radar detector on.
Can you even floor the accelerator for more than 5 seconds on a V8TT car without breaking the speed limit? It's not something I do often - I don't particularly enjoy thrashing my wife's car , but, it is a lot of fun on those rare times that I do do it in her car- it's easy to do without making the car exceed the speed limit, or, risk a "reckless driving" charge, whatever.
Also, I don't know why exactly, but the throttle feels even less responsive on a turbo car, sometimes if I slow down then hit the gas, I swear I've waited more than full second or two after FOT for the turbos to even start spooling up!?!? That means that in the case where you have to either stop, or slow down, you really can't accelerate - the power doesn't get put down until too late. I'm not even trying to push my car hard, not at all, I just kept experimenting, turn after turn, and eventually found that I could literally push the throttle ALL THE WAY DOWN and still get VERY LITTLE power / no fast turbo spooling (in this particular case of having slowed down a lot for a turn, then trying to speed up while turning).
No question, most of the time the turbos makes the car faster, and you don't have the minivan next to you smoke you which can sometimes lead to an unpleasant sadness - but, whatever the combination of factors is (I'm not exactly sure) my wife's car is more responsive to my throttle input, feels "peppier", and is more fun for me to drive in most circumstances. It is a little lighter, it is more efficient putting power to the wheels (drive train loss is a real thing w/AWD systems), and it does have VTEC to compensate for the smaller motor.
If I wanted to just drive my car, and not think about it, not be bothered by it, didn't care much about having fun with it, then absolutely I would want the V8TT.
And yes, I understand why (and have personal experience) V8TTs are tons more fun than NA 4-bangers, and, yes, I understand that most people who want to enjoy "fast driving" will avoid NA 4-bangers. So, I amrather surprised to find myself thinking that I'm not going to be all that disappointed to sell this car, and drive my wife's car!
Went to the Exotics on Broadway (formerly Exotics on Cannery Row, they moved it because of the crowd sizes) yesterday. Pretty cool mix of all kinds of exotics. Didn't get pics of everything because once the crowds were there it was 3-4 people deep. Funny thing is there were a ton of exotics just driving on the outside of the venue so you could just watch the regular traffic to see some nice exotics too.
hey im having the same issue figuring out tire set up im in need of new tires. i dont want to stretch, im on stretched now, but i have a 08 tls i have fenders rolled and pulled, and on tien z adjustables, so im willing to riase if nessrary. im on xxr 527d 18x10.5 +20mm im wanting to add some spacers maybe 50mm in rear nd 30mm in front. what do you think.
I have a 2013 RDX that I purchased CPO with 38k mi in October 2016. The car was in excellent condition. It currently has 99k miles.
My issue is that the car is riding very rough. It feels like the tires are very over inflated (but they are not). Our local road are terrible and with the car driving this way, were actually avoiding some roads.
Im trying to decide if its a tire issue or a strut/shock issue.
The tires are Yokohama Geolandar tires. They appear to be wearing evenly and have some tread left but I am planning on replacing them this winter. The struts and shocks show no oil leaking on the shafts or visible signs of damage other than both boots on the struts are torn.
Im figuring Ill be replacing both the tires and suspension in the next year or two but Id rather not have to replace both at the same time if I can help it.
Which should I do first? Does this sound like a tire or suspension issue?
Two weeks ago yesterday, I made the move from my 16 year Acura allegiance to Alfa Romeo. A variety of factors went into my decision to make the move--and I couldn't be happier at the moment. If you have not had an opportunity to drive one of these, I'd encourage you to--the balance of performance, handling and style is unparalleled in its class IMO.

I noticed yesterday that the time on my infotainment system was exactly one hour behind the real time.
I have a 2020 Platinum Elite (Canadian) and I have been using "automatic" time since I purchased it 8 weeks ago. I assume that automatic time is obtained from the GPS satellites, and then displayed according to the time zone of the geographic location I am in. Of course it also has to know when the daylight savings times occur in that area,
I corrected the clock by specifying a manual setting, but when I switched back to automatic, the clock jumped back one hour again.
Next thing I checked was my time zone. It was also set to use "automatic" but I manually changed it to Eastern Standard -4:00 and the clock changed to the correct time.
Therefore the problem seems to be that the the system thinks that daylight savings ended yesterday, and the clock was set back one hour, or, the system thinks I am in the Central time zone.
I am about one hour north of Toronto in case the problem is related to my geographic location.
Looking for a catalytic converter, I am in need of one because someone decided to get under my sisters car in daylight and steal it. Please let me know if you have one laying around and don't need it. Thanks in advance.
Hello. Im looking to get the key fob with the starter installed and Im trying to figure out exactly what all parts I need to get for it. I have the 2019 RDX Advance SH-AWD. If I could ever get the AcuraLink app to work that would start it, but that has never been reliable. I plan to take it to the dealer to install but my dealer charges twice the price for the parts as I can get elsewhere so I really want to bring the parts with me. Specific help is appreciated.
Having problems pairing to Bluetooth to my phone for music. I try to search for my cars Bluetooth through my phone and there no option to connect to anything. Anyone know how to do this?
Just purchased my first Acura. I compared against Audi, Volvo, and even Mercedes - Acura won hands down on price and feature comparison. I love this car.
I've just purchased 22' Vossen CVT to add on. I'm installing my 12' JL sub and 1000W JL amp (overkill, I know). And I'm tinting the front windows to match the rear. Photos soon.
What up? I just came into a possession of a 2013 CU2 (aka TSX). I'm in love. Feels like the progeny of my 99 Accord. Gonna try to hunt down a Mugen kit! The 2nd Gen TSX forums look full of good info! Great place ya'll got here :)
I just got a used 2010 TL with 62k miles on it and seems the previous owner did maintained the car pretty well for the mechanical part minus the body. Overall not too bad but I am a bit concerned on what maintenance I should do be doing with this car like tune ups , etc with this mileage?
thinking beyond the TSX, what features / characteristics will you require in the next car?
For me, I thought it would be the Volt/Clarity category but Volt is getting canned and Clarity is only sold in a few limited areas and some reviewers said the driving experience is worse than the Volt. So neither seem likely for me.
My ideal design would be to mash them further toward the electric side of the balance, bigger battery, smaller gas tank. But seems it's not realistic given the lack of success of the predecessors.
- backup cam is required but a 360 cam would be truly useful.
For existing features sold today, I'd like the
- HUD
- Carplay/Android Auto
- good control over shifting or regenerative braking, depending on transmission. I'll be coming from a 6MT so I still want to optimize stuff.
I tagged along with a friend test driving the GL550 (100k$+) and found some nice advanced features but probably not worth paying for:
- wipers that automatically go faster/slower with the rain
I replaced the timing belt over the weekend. The thing that is holding me up is the oil dipstick tube. Does anyone know the trick to getting the dipstick tube bolt back in? The hole is hidden between the dipstick tube, the timing cover, and the serpentine belt tensioner. I'm thinking of using some epoxy keep the bolt in the socket while I try to line it up in the hole.
